Did you know there are categories for preemies?

Updated: Jul 18, 2023

November is National Prematurity Awareness Month! Premature means born before 37 wks gestation, there are 450000 born each year in the US.

“Tiny but mighty” “Little fighters”

are true descriptions of these precious babies. As a NICU nurse I have witnessed first hand the strengths of theses preemies and their families. The roller coaster ride in the NICU is a wild ride that is physically and emotionally exhausting.

Micro 1 - 2.5 lbs 11 - 15 in / .45 - 1.1 kg 28 - 38 cm

Tiny 2 - 4 lbs 14.5 - 16.5 in / .9 -1.8 kg 37 - 42 cm

Preemie 3 - 6 lbs 15 - 18.5 in / 1.36 - 2.7 kg 38 - 47 cm

Newborn 5 - 8 lbs 17.5 - 21 in / 2.3 - 3.6 kg 44 - 54 cm
